Zinc, brass, copper, stainless steel are all suitable for indoor or exterior applications.

The Etching Process

After our staff of artists and typesetters have taken your ideas and created a unique design for your your individual situation, the etching process begins. This process is accomplished by exposing an image on the photo-sensitive surface of the metal.

The exposed metal is then chemically etched to provide a crisp clear image. At this stage the image can be etched into the metal, or the background can be etched away from the image to create a relief.

The etched plate is then sent to the painting, sanding and finishing departments. Each step of the way, our skilled craftsmen take pride in creating the best quality that our customers have come to expect.

Magnesium

Another material that is extremely popular, but limited exclusively to interior use is magnesium. Magnesium has a number of distinct advantages, it is lightweight, and especially conductive to a sharp, crisp image to match the original artwork.  It can also be painted to match custom colors.

The properties of magnesium allow us to achieve numerous looks that can not be done with other metals. It is available in the following thickness: .064, .118, .153, and .250

Metal gauge .064 (1/16") is used for most items mounted on wood up to 11"x14".  With larger items you may wish to use .118 gauge (1/8").  When metal is mounted directly to a wall we recommend .153 (5/32") or .250 (1/4") metal thickness. When your desire is to produce a plaque simulating a Bronze Casting, .250 (1/4") is highly recommended.

Zinc, Brass, Copper and Stainless Steel

Zinc, brass, copper and stainless steel are all different in appearance, but similar in the etching process.

Zinc
Like magnesium, zinc holds highly detailed artwork with precision and can be etched in the same manner as magnesium. It is a heavy metal and highly suitable for outdoor applications. Zinc is available in the following thickness: .064, .125, .153 and .250

Brass, Copper, Stainless Steel
In brass, copper or stainless steel, we etch the material, color fill and finish. For those who desire the image in relief and the background etched away, we offer a natural product with no paint fill but with a finish coat.

Brass is available in the following thickness: .020, .032, .064, and .250

Copper is available in the following thickness: .064

Stainless steel is available in the following thickness: .048

Metal Photo

Metal Photo was developed to maintain its integrity in extreme conditions for the US Navy.  The image is impregnated into the smooth metal surface creating a permanent scratch resistant image.  Very fine detail is available since it is a "photo" type of process. Photographs, newspaper clippings etc. are perfect for this type of process.

The selection of color is limited to black with gold, silver and copper.  It is available in the following thickness: .020, .032, .063

Metal Photo is a very versatile material which can be used indoors or outdoors. Check out these images to see the detail available through this medium.
